State Fair of Texas

All of our extended family was planning to come visit us this weekend but everything changed on Tuesday so we decided to find something fun for our little family to do this weekend.  We have decided to go to the State Fair of Texas on Sunday! The girls will be so excited to spend the day playing games, eating some good fair food, and of course visiting the petting zoo (always a huge hit with the kids).  This year they have some very yummy fried foods that we may have to try…

Deep Fried Clam Chowda
Fried clam chowder bites breaded in Panko Bread crumbs and placed on top a bed of fried clams. Each order is served with a Sriracha Ranch dipping sauce.

Deep Fried Cannoli Bites
This modern twist on the cream-filled Italian classic dessert begins with hot pastry and explodes into a warm sweet-cream center, sprinkled with rich mini-chocolate chips. The Cannoli Bites finish with a zesty hint of citrus and orange. Lightly dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled with dark and white chocolate.

Here is a look back at our past trips to the State Fair.

Wednesday night  I opened our front door and there was a big box with my name on it and inside that box was my new Silhouette CAMEO® 3.   I did a happy dance because I was so excited.  Danny helped me get everything set up and I immediately went to work on my first vinyl project.  I have SO much to learn but I can’t wait to start making signs for our house and also vinyl decals for water bottles and glasses. Heck maybe I will start selling them on my Facebook page if I get good.

Here is what I made Wednesday night…

I spent this past weekend with four of my girlfriends in downtown Dallas.  We attended The Belong Conferences and listened to five women talk about how God has worked in their lives.  They talked about faith, about family, about love and purpose and passion and brokenness.  Shauna Niequist was one of the amazing speakers.  When she spoke I felt very convicted.  She recently released a new book – Present Over Perfect.  As soon as I got home I downloaded the book and so far it is so good!

Two weeks ago Kate’s Girl Scout Troop learned some basic sewing skills.  She has been dying to show me what she learned.  We went to Hobby Lobby and she picked out some Halloween fabric.  I thought a simple placement would be the easiest thing for her to sew.  She did great for her first project.  I think we try  a pillow case next.

  1. What a fun week!! I love your vinyl projects!! So cute!
Present Over Perfect is in my list to read, too. Did you know I use to work with Lauren? I can’t remember if we talked about that or not??
Have fun at the fair! It’s always a blast!

  2. My aunt is a Cricut junkie! She is now also obsessed with making t-shirts using a steam press. Glad to hear Storks was good- hoping to take my kids to see it soon!

  3. I’m so jealous about your time at that conference! I need something like that in my future. I’m even MORE jealous about the state fair! We have a 4 day weekend and I was totally planning to bring the kids but of course freshman football is still having practice on Monday & Tuesday…boo!! Hope y’all have fun…eat a corny dog for me!

    1. Jen Hatmaker was amazing!!! I wish I could have actually met her in person but the line was so long. My girls are so excited about the state fair because we didn’t get to go last year. I will for sure eat a corn dog for you. Have a great weekend.

  4. Ummm…. Deep fried clam chowda? Love at first sight! I hope the fair was a ton of fun! I am glad you enjoyed the conference. I will have to check out that book! Have a great week! (Visiting from the H54F link up)

  5. I’m so jealous you got the Silhouette – looks a little complicated but i’ve been wanting one forever! Your glasses look so great for a beginner 🙂 Can’t wait to see signs and other decals you make! Hope you enjoyed the fair!

    1. Thanks!! I missed up my first sign project this weekend!! I have figured out that it will take a lot of patience and practice to get the technique down. We had blast at the fair. I am recapping our trip tomorrow on the blog. Have a great week.
