Making Memories

Washington DC Vacation – Day One

We had an amazing vacation in Washington DC.  We did a lot of walking and crammed in all the sights we could see in six days.  The girls and I woke up at 4 am for our flight to DC and we were so excited to see Danny waiting for us at the gate.

After we checked into our hotel we put on our walking shoes and headed out to start our sight seeing.   Our first stop was the Lincoln Memorial.

The girls were so excited to walk up the stairs and see Lincoln.

And then we turned around and saw this amazing sight…

When Danny and I went to DC in 2008 we didn’t have time to go to the Arlington National Cemetery so I made it a priority to go there this time.   We decided to walk to the cemetery after we visited the Lincoln Memorial (this was a 1.5-mile walk!)  Once we arrived I just stood in silence taking it all in.  It was so breathtaking to see all of the white headstones.

We arrived at The Tomb of the Unknowns just as they were laying flowers down.

Before we left the cemetery we stopped by John F Kennedy’s gravesite to pay our respects.

Since we had walked so much we decided to take an Uber to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. Best idea ever!!

On our way back to our hotel we stopped by the Washington Monument.

We had a great day walking around Washington DC and seeing the amazing sights.  Before we went to bed we looked at Kate’s Garmin and we were shocked to see that we had walked 7.4 miles and 30,014 steps!!!
